Boats at Cienfuegos
A narrow natural canal joins the city of Cienfuegos, southern Cuba with the Caribbean Sea. Cienfuegos was once a bustling industrial port, shipping Cuba's crops.
Today it is a beautiful backwater. The canal is home to small-scale itinerant fishermen who fish using, homemade boats, cobbled together from plywood, packing foam and metal scraps. It is a landscape of natural beauty and proud people living in "sustainable" poverty.
