The Latvian nation's history is marked by significant suffering due to foreign domination, war, and repression. However, resilience has been a defining characteristic of the Latvian people, evident in their persistent struggle for independence, cultural preservation, and national identity. Today, Latvia continues to navigate modern challenges while honoring its past and celebrating its severity.
My painting depicts the Baltic Sea and Daugva River view, carefully incorporating elements that symbolize the rich cultural heritage of Latvia. The use of Latvian symbols and the inclusion of Baltic Pine trees and the girl in the national costume are deliberate and respectful references to the country's natural environment and deep connection to nature. The depiction of human veins symbolically emerging from the pine tree roots further emphasizes the spiritual relationship between people and their environment in the Latvian tradition.
